Project Overview

Following their acquisition of the landmark Shelbourne Hotel in 2014, new owners Kennedy Wilson, embarked on an ambitious series of targeted renovations and upgrades to the building to enhance the 5-star offering to guests and bring the hotel up to current quality, energy, and sustainability standards.

We were appointed to provide the 5-star luxury refurbishment of this landmark heritage Victorian property (built in 1867) ensuring that this near 200-year-old institution was returned to its former glory as the ‘Grand Dame on the Green’.

The project comprised the restoration of the reception area, all public areas and function rooms, heritage suites, rooms and corridors, adjoining external spaces, and the historic ‘Grand Staircase’. We were also responsible for the installation of a specially commissioned stained-glass series of windows reflecting the hotel’s place in Irish history with a dedicated pane for each of the 32 county crests.

Additionally, there was an extensive renovation of a previously unused terrace and adjoining internal space to create a new internal bar and external function area, a full refurbishment of all meeting rooms including the Constitution Suite and the Adam and Deirdre Suite. We also installed a new commercial kitchen and an ancillary storage building on a disused external courtyard.

Works included an extensive renovation and refurbishment of the main hotel entrance and reception, the Lord Mayor’s Lounge, the main ballroom and pre-function suites, along with upgrades to many of the building’s services including replacement of all heating and hot water boilers, installation of a replacement chilled water system on the roof, upgrades and replacements to the ventilation systems, a new BMS system, and replacement of the fire alarm system.

All works were carried out on a phased basis ensuring no disruption to hotel operations and without any impact on the guests’ experience.
