Group Head of MEP Commissioning
Location: Dublin
Description
At John Paul Construction, we believe every project is an opportunity to improve on what’s come before. To foster that mindset, we hire the brightest and best in the industry, encourage collaboration, and embrace innovative thinking and new technology.
Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a Group Head of MEP Commissioning to provide leadership across our entire portfolio of projects, with an emphasis on our data centre projects.
This pivotal role ensures that building services perform as intended — safely, efficiently, and in line with design specifications and compliance requirements. You’ll lead a team of engineers and specialists, work closely with contractors and clients, and play a central role in delivering technically sound and fully operational systems on every project.
This role will be based in Dublin, with travel to the UK and mainland Europe required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Manage a skilled team of MEP commissioning engineers, providing direction, support, and technical oversight throughout all stages of the commissioning process for data centres serving large multinational clients.
- Strategy Development: Establish a consistent and practical approach to commissioning across the business, including the creation of a company-wide commissioning playbook.
- Technical Assurance: Review designs, inspect on-site works, and ensure systems are tested and performing to specification — always starting with the end in mind.
- Programme and Budget Management: Oversee commissioning schedules, allocate resources effectively, and ensure all activities are completed on time and within budget.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project teams, contractors, OFCI/CFCI suppliers, and clients to coordinate efforts and resolve issues efficiently.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work complies with building regulations, health and safety standards, and project-specific requirements.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records — from test results to compliance sign-offs — ensuring full traceability and transparency.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Support the development of junior staff, share knowledge, and help build long-term expertise within the team.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve efficiency or effectiveness within commissioning processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or Construction Management (or equivalent experience).
- Extensive hands-on experience in MEP commissioning, with a strong track record in a leadership or senior role.
- Strong understanding of building services, construction methods, and industry regulations – particularly those relevant to data centres.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency with digital tools such as BIM and Revit to support planning and coordination.
