Project Overview

Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) new Motorway Operations Control Centre (MOCC) is the central hub from which TII monitors and manages the safe operation of more than 1,200 kilometres of motorway and dual carriageways across Ireland. This state-of-the-art building is equipped with the latest technology to allow real-time monitoring of traffic on the busiest sections of the motorway network. It enables TII and emergency responders to implement an integrated and coordinated response to traffic conditions while improving the dissemination of information in relation to incidents, events, and road works to road users.

The build consisted of a two-storey extension to the existing M50 Dublin Tunnel Control building, merging the two existing tunnel and motorway control rooms into a centralised new control room, with an incident management room. A server room, meeting rooms and offices were also provided, with extensive fitouts of mechanical and electrical services of the new control room, offices, and associated facilities. The extension was constructed over two phases, in a live 24/7 operational building, and without any disruption of tunnel or motorway operation services.

The first phase of the project consisted of the main structural works and the construction of the new extension and main control room. Phase two consisted of the refurbishment of areas in the existing building following the relocation of operational services to the new control room.

To support the integration and coordination of incident response across both the tunnel and motorway operations, we installed a three metre high, 15-metre wide, 4.2-million-pixel video-wall, which displays real-time feeds from the motorway CCTV camera network.
