A9 Crubenmore Dual Carriageway Northern Extension

Construction of 3.2 km of dual carriageway on the A9 Perth to Inverness Scottish trunk road network including realignment of 1 km of the National Cycle Route NCN7 through a narrow site corridor within the Cairngorms National Park and Lough Etteridge SSSI whilst maintaining 24 hour two way traffic on the A9 trunk road.

  • Third party consultations – SEPA, SNH, HC, CNPA, NR,  local residents
  • Phased TTM design involving  multiple traffic switch overs
  • Complex cut/fill earthworks due to site topography (150,000 m3)
  • Peat removal, soft ground treatment to  formation / cutting slopes
  • Filter and carrier drainage & N2 road restraint barrier over 8.5km
  • Flexible composite Pavement 65,000 m2 – 60 MSA design with CBGM,EME2, thin surface course
  • Embankment soil nailing  & rock nailing (45-70 degrees) immediately adjacent to live railway line
