Beacon Hospital
Beacon Hospital is the first privately funded hospital to be constructed in the Dublin area for 20 years. Located in Sandyford, Dublin 18, it forms part of the Beacon complex, also constructed by John Paul Construction. This state-of-the-art 183 bed hospital with 22,000 square metres of floor space is built over eight levels with two main buildings in an L-shape, joined by a central atrium and a curved glass roof.
John Paul Construction worked with Beacon Medical Group from the initial concept design stage through to delivery and handover of the fully fitted facility within an impressive two-year programme. With eight operating theatres and dedicated rooms for Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiac, General, Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic Surgery, it houses one of the most advanced surgery facilities in the country. The hospital also incorporates Digital Radiology suites with advanced Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound, as well as Angiography suites. Further services include two Endoscopy suites, an Oncology Day Treatment Centre and Therapeutic Radiography with two LINAC (Linear Accelerators) that required the construction of specialised underground concrete bunkers.
Our involvement at initial design stage allowed us to provide innovative solutions to ensure that the ambitious two-year programme to deliver a fully working hospital could be achieved. We also proposed value engineering solutions that led to significantly reduced costs to the Client including the selection of materials to fast track the programme without compromising on quality standards. During the course of the contract we were appointed to manage the installation and commissioning of all the medical equipment and diagnostic facilities including MRI, CT Scanner, CT Sim and PET/CT, all of which we were able to integrate within the original two year construction programme period. Throughout this challenging project, our Project Team worked in tandem with the Design Team, the Hospital Operator and the Client to ensure that the Beacon Hospital was delivered on time and within budget, to the most stringent international quality standards.
