Aldi Distribution Centre
The Aldi Regional Distribution Centre in Naas, Co Kildare consists of 38,000 square metres of warehousing space, chilled storage areas and a fully fitted high specification office facility. Built with structural steel and precast concrete throughout, the warehouse floor covers a vast area of approximately 10 acres whilst the whole development extends to 17 acres. Our scope of works entailed the provision of waste water treatment systems, waste compactors and all Civil and Infrastructural site works, including access roads to the R409, service utilities and landscaping.
The benefit of early pre-construction contractor involvement and a collaborative design approach brought significant value engineering to the Client and resulted in a considerable reduction in the original contract sum. Early involvement also facilitated the delivery of this large scale industrial project within a stringent 12-month programme through rigorous pre-planning. As a Company we place great emphasis on developing good Client relationships and from the outset our Construction Team worked closely with Aldi Ireland and the Design Team to ensure that all project expectations were clearly understood and achieved. This included visits to similar facilities in the UK and the careful selection of subcontractors that could deliver quality construction on programme. Close liaison with the Client and all other parties ensured that any problems or potential issues were resolved efficiently and effectively throughout the contract.
Because of the geographical diversity of key Design Team offices, which were based in various locations throughout the UK, John Paul Construction adopted a 'collaborative extranet' to manage the transfer of design information effectively and ensure real-time information exchange and drawings archives. This proved to be extremely successful and has since become standard practice on all of the Company's major projects.
The agreement of quality benchmarking, on-going defects resolution and continuous quality inspections with the Client and the Design Team ensured the handover of a defects-free building ahead of schedule and below original budget.
