A9 Cromarty Bridge

Date: March 15, 2016

We have been awarded a marine based contract to carry out tidal scour repair works at the Cromarty Bridge on the A9 north of Inverness. The works are within an area identified as extremely environmentally and ecologically sensitive due to the presence of Arctic Tern and Otter breeding grounds.

The works are being predominantly carried out from sea barges anchored in the bay below the bridge. The scour repairs involve GPS controlled underwater excavation around the bridge piers to shape the sea bed to the designed form. This is followed by the installation of a protective geotextile layer overlaid with 3000tn of rock armour deposited from sea barges. These activities are co-ordinated by a team of professional divers. The works commenced in mid-February and are progressing well.
